Today was a very busy day in preparation for tomorrow's 2023 Friendship Circle Gala! We are so excited that all of our hard work is being contributed to such a worthy cause. Ellie and I began the day by attending a staff meeting in the morning, where we discussed the objective of week 11 - setting expectations. This objective is especially important in light of tomorrow's gala. It is essential that each team member understands who is responsible, who is accountable, and who is contributing particular abilities to the event. It is also important to give input to one another to prevent confusion or becoming sidetracked and to take a moment to reflect and appreciate everyone who has contributed to this amazing event.

After the meeting, we got to work putting together the gift bags that will be given out to the teen volunteers. Each recipient receives a certificate (whether it's a mayor, senator, or president award), a personalized speaker, a chocolate bar, and a pair of Friendship Circle socks in their gift bag. Each bag also needed a label with the name of the volunteer on it, so I set aside a small chunk of time to create labels that had the Friendship Circle logo and colors. The labels turned out beautifully. I was able to really refine my graphic design skills thanks to this task, which I am looking forward to pursuing in college. There were setbacks along the way, such as creating additional certificates, having new RSVPs for the gala (which required more bags with different items inside), and making a trip to Walmart to get extra labels and tissue paper for the gift bags. We had to do this for more than 75 bags, which was a long and tiring process, but we finished it with a little persistence and music!

On Sunday, I even got the opportunity to volunteer in one of the FC programs - Sunday Circle. The volunteers and participants in this program engaged in art projects, music class, a trip to the park, and a small show by the Disney princess Rapunzel. This opportunity was incredibly meaningful. I was finally able to meet and spend time with the kids who make this organization so remarkable. It was amazing to see all the children laughing, smiling, and enjoying themselves. In the future, I hope to volunteer in more FC programs!
